4th Annual Chefs Charity Café
Canadian War Museum, Ottawa
Wednesday March 26, 2008


The Savvy Grapes is proud to be a returning sponsor for this annual event where executive chefs from Ottawa & Gatineau top hotels created delicious hors d'oeuvres & desserts before your eyes.  Each hotel is elegantly paired with a Canadian winery or brewery for a delicious experience. 

Over 500 people attended this fun night out supporting the Ottawa Senators Foundation charity of choice Roger’s House and the Military Families Fund

An Evening with Maximilian Riedel
2007
This was quite a night!  Maximilian Riedel, the 11th generation Austrian crystal maker, whose family crafts the world’s most famous glassware, was in Ottawa to showcase how Riedel glasses enhances the aromas & tastes of wine. 

Mr. Riedel introduced their latest line “Vitis” glassware & shared the podium with renowned Sommeliers who commented on the wines with the new Vitis glasses:

Following the wine tasting, guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres prepared by Brookstreet's executive chef, Michael Blackie.

This special event was arranged by CA Paradis. What a night it was!

 



The Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association's Chefs Charity Cafe
2005, 2006 & 2007.  


The Savvy Grapes were proud to be part of the organizing committee and sponsors of this 2nd annual lunch hour wine & food event.  This unique event featured wines & beers paired with spectacular culinary creations by the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Associations' executive chefs. 

Participating hotels included the Ottawa Marriott, Fairmont Chateau Laurier, Crowne Plaza, Monterey Inn, Holiday Inn Select, Ottawa Congress Centre, Hilton Lac Leamy, The Lord Elgin HotelBrookstreet Resort, The Westin, Embassy West and Delta Ottawa. 19 wineries, wine agents & breweries were paired with each executive chef to create a unique experience for the 700+ paid guests.

In addition to gastronomic adventure & excellent networking opportunities, there were spectacular silent auction with items donated by local businesses, The Savvy Grapes & OGHA hotels including travel getaway packages to Quebec City & Montreal.

Canadian Organic Growers Feast of Fields
2007

The Savvy Grapes was proud to be the Sommeliers & a sponsor of this event hosted by the Ottawa Chapter of Canadian Organic Growers.  

While 500+ ticket holders nibbled on appetizers made by top Ottawa chefs using local & organic produce, The Savvy Grapes Sommeliers presented food & wine pairings with Ontario wines.  Everyone savoured the year's harvest fresh from the farm, creatively prepared by Ottawa 's best chefs. More about this annual event...

 

 

Healthy Holiday Hospitality

Guests braved snow storms on both evenings to join Accredited Sommeliers Debbie Trenholm & Carol Anderson of The Savvy Grapes along with cookbook author Gay Cook & Head Chef Bianca Morris of Farm Boy, for a free seminar to learn tips for healthy holiday entertaining.

For the past two years, Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa asked The Savvy Grapes to be the Sommeliers for their annual fundraising event arranging the wine tasting reception and selecting the wines to be served with the dinner. The Savvy Grapes were proud to be involved & to be sponsors.  Other community leaders involved were Honourary Chair and Auctioneer Lawrence Greenspon, Honourary Artist Patron, legendary Merrickville artist Peter Doef, and media co-hosts Rita Celli from CBC TV and Chris Day from CJOH TV.

The WBN President’s Holiday Event

The Savvy Grapes
& the Women's Business Network hosted a fun networking event - a tasting of Canadian wines at the Monterey Inn Resort. During the evening, Accredited Sommelier, Debbie Trenholm, provided insight on the selected wines, wine tasting techniques, interesting stories about the winemaker & ‘rules of thumb’ for matching wines with foods. 

This wine tasting is intended to be relaxed, interactive and a unique way to meet business women of Ottawa…over a glass of wine.

Habitat for Humanity Women Build Gala
2006


The Savvy Grapes helped the National Capital Region raise $75,000 needed to undertake an all-women build of a Habitat for Humanity home for a deserving Ottawa area family.  The Savvy Grapes was proud to be a sponsor of the gala fundraising event. A team of women Sommeliers will set aside their corkscrews & grab a hammer to help the community build this special home. More about this event...

Debbie Trenholm of The Savvy Grapes was the Sommelier at this FUN fund-raising event for Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.  During the dinner, Debbie presented wines from Canadian wine industry pioneer, Reif Winery, with each course of the menu created by the Governor General of Canada's private chefs. Wayne Rostad was be the Master of Ceremonies and Chief Auctioneer and Dr. Fraser Scott, the leading researcher in the pathogenesis of Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes  provided an update on the progress of his research.
